About Me

About me Mariam Jangda

Hi, my name is Mariam Jangda and I’m happy you’re here!

You’ve decided to share my passion for supporting local small businesses and that makes me and all the makers across Canada do a happy dance.

I want to help you discover the amazing talent that lies in Canada and how you can incorporate those brands into your style. I support entrepreneurs who are dedicated to their craft and have an inspiring story to tell.

My interest in fashion began quite early. As a teenager, I was heavily trend-focused but I also had a knack for mixing colours, patterns and textures. Walking into a person’s house I would immediately take in the space. Thinking about how was it decorated and how light illuminated aspects down to the curve of a chair. This developed my aesthetics in other aspects of style, for instance, how an insignificant blouse could instantly be elevated with layered gold necklaces or how streamlined pants could make a person appear taller.

My love for style didn’t stop there.

Towards the end of university, I launched my handmade hair accessories and jewelry business called Emjay Accessories. It taught me a lot about working with different materials and suppliers. While I was making headbands by night, during the day I was working at one of the top fashion textile houses in Pakistan named Khaadi, which prides itself on local techniques, fabrics and artisans.

Shifting gears in 2016 brought me to Toronto, exposing me to new sites, smells and sensibilities that were foreign to me. It’s sensibilities that shape fashion in a particular city. I went to lots of local markets and got the chance to meet incredible makers from across Canada. Sharing the stories of these makers was what I really wanted to do.

This blog is my way of drawing attention to the community that gave me purpose when I first moved here.
